The Commission on Appointments (CA) led by Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, yesterday confirmed the ad interim promotion of Negrense Army Brig. Gen. Eliglen Villaflor, along with 128 other senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Villaflor, of Bago City, Negros Occidental, is the commander of the AFP Joint Special Operations Group, which is composed of elite forces of the Philippine Army, Navy and Air Force.

In a statement, Zubiri made it a point to approach the AFP officers and personally condole with them on the recent loss of four Army troopers in Maguindanao.

He also thanked them for keeping the peace throughout Mindanao.

“We owe you the democracy and the freedom we are enjoying today. And our hearts go out, me personally, I deeply sympathize. I would like to condole with the four army troopers that perished in Maguindanao two days ago. Being the author of the Bangsamoro Organic Law, it pains me to still see these insurgents in the name of religion, trying to terrorize our forces,” Zubiri said.

Negros Occidental 6th District Rep. Mercedes Alvarez and Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya are among the 18 members of CA, led by Zubiri.*
