The Department of Education (DepEd) Negros Occidental recently held a coordination meeting with the counterpart committee chairs from the provincial government of Negros Occidental, Bacolod City government, and DepEd Division of Bacolod City for the upcoming 2024 Provincial Athletic Association Meet and the 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet (WVRAA). The meeting was held at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall on March 14.
The purpose of the coordination meeting was to ensure the efficient preparation, successful execution, and smooth conduct of both the provincial and regional meets. With the collaboration, full support, and cooperation of the various committee chairs and their respective counterparts, the province was hopeful to address and resolve any potential challenges and issues encountered early on, in the preparation of the said meets.
The topics discussed during the meeting included the coordination between various agencies and committees, traffic management and security, opening and closing programs, health and safety measures, press conference and documentation, accommodations, tourism promotions, and sports facilities development, among many others.
The meeting was called to order by Schools Division of Negros Occidental Superintendent Anthony Liobet. Also in attendance were Provincial Sports Coordinator and Executive Assistant IV – Sports, Anthony Carlo Agustin, who attended on behalf of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, along with several office heads and representatives from the provincial government such as Karen Dinsay (NOSP Head), and Gemma Rose Flores (PBO Head). The City of Bacolod was represented by Office of Youth and Sports Development Head, Adrian Melocoton, with the officials from the Schools Division of the city.
The 2024 Provincial Athletic Association Meet is set on April 1 to 6, 2024 while the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet will be on May 2 to 7.
According to the press release, this year’s WVRAA theme is “Nurturing Champions for the World,” and will be hosted by the province and the Schools Division of Negros Occidental, and co-hosted by the Schools Division of Bacolod City.*
