A policeman died while four others were injured after two tricycles collided at the Vista Alegre access road in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City, at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
The fatality was identified as Patrolman Ivan Ray dela Cruz, 25, assigned at the Boracay Police Station in Malay, Aklan, and a resident of Barangay Villamonte in Bacolod, P/Capt. Eufracio Javines, Station 7 chief, said yesterday.
Dela Cruz died in a hospital at about 5 a.m. yesterday, Javines said.
Those injured were identified as Cinderella Diancin, 26, of Barangay Vista Alegre, Shellene Villanueva, 28, and drivers Nemwil Perolino, 32, of Barangay Villamonte and Fernan Agolino, 44, of Barangay Vista Alegre, police records show.
Traffic investigation showed that the Kawasaki Barako tricycle of Perolino, with dela Cruz, Diancin and Villanueva as passengers, was going east on the road when it collided with the tricycle of Agolino, that was travelling in the opposite direction.
Javines said those injured were brought to a hospital, but Perolino was an outpatient and is now detained at the custodial facility of Station 7.
Perolino told the police that the area was a blind curve.*
