After 29 years of rendering service to the government, Don Salvador Benedicto Mayor Marxlen dela Cruz will retire from politics.
The three-term stint of Dela Cruz as mayor of Don Salvador Benedicto ends in 2025.
I will return to private life, 29 years of public service is a long time, declared dela Cruz.
Vice Mayor Nehemiah dela Cruz, his younger brother, will run for mayor in the midterm elections next year, he added.
“There are a lot of things I’ve missed as a private citizen, number one, I would like to wake up when I want to,” dela Cruz said, stressing that he cannot be the leader of Don Salvador Benedicto for life.
De la Cruz, who had served as the town’s mayor for 15 years, said he wants to give a chance to others to serve the town.
“But I want to rest. It seems I have burnout,” he pointed out.
“Time flies fast. It seems it was just yesterday when I first became mayor,” dela Cruz added.
His mother, Cynthia, also served as the town mayor for nine years, while their father, Nehemias Sr., was the founding local chief executive of Don Salvador Benedicto.*
