A total of 113 assorted firearms and 100 bladed weapons were confiscated from the arrested violators, regional police spokesman PLt. Col. Arnel Solis disclosed yesterday.

Of the violators, 68 were arrested by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Iloilo PPO – 32, Aklan PPO – 25, Iloilo City Police Office – 20, Bacolod City Police Office – 19, Antique PPO – 17, Capiz PPO – 11 and Guimaras PPO -8, Solis added.

PBrig.Gen. Flynn Dongbo, regional police director of Western Visayas, lauded the collective effort of all unit commanders across the region for the strict implementation of the gun ban since Jan. 9.

This endeavor helped us a lot in preventing the occurrence of crimes in different localities during this election period, Dongbo said, as he urged police chiefs to intensify the conduct of COMELEC checkpoints in their respective areas.*
