IPM Construction, the official garbage hauler of Bacolod, is offering the city government a public-private partnership agreement for the construction of a new sanitary landfill.

Horace Yap, IPM consultant, in an interview over DYHB Bacolod, said that they are offering to utilize a 16 to 20-hectare lot in Brgy. Felisa as new landfill site.

Earlier, the Environment Management Bureau of Region 6 said that, in a matter of eight to 10 months, the present landfill will reach its maximum capacity.

But if Yap is to be believed, it will not even reach eight months before the landfill will be filled as the daily volume of garbage being hauled there is 1,400 cubic meters.

Councilor Carl Lopez, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Environment and Ecology, has called for the closure of the landfill following the violations noted by the EMB.

Among the violations was the non-segregation of garbage which is a violation under Section 48, Paragraph 4 of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

Yap said they are following what is required by law as far as the hauling of the garbage is concerned. He said they have not received any notice of violation since they started operating at the landfill.*
