Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday lauded the conduct of drug testing among the 1,100 government employees of Victorias City, Negros Occidental, describing it as a “good idea.”
The drug testing in Victorias City led by Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez led to 10 City Hall employees testing positive for illegal drugs.
As a government employee, it is expected from you not to be involved in any illegal drug activities, or use illegal drugs, Lacson said.
Benitez earlier said he will not renew the contracts of those tested who positive for illegal drugs, which are slated to end this month.
Lacson said that any local government units can do that as part of government programs in cleaning the bureaucracy.
Asked if he will also order the conduct of drug testing among more than 3,000 Capitol employees, Lacson replied “If I will have to do it, it’s gonna be a surprise.”*
