Province, DepEd gear up for Provincial and Regional Meets

Following a series of coordination meetings with the different committee chairs from the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental (PGNO), the Department of Education (DepEd) Negros Occidental Division, the Bacolod City Government, and DepEd Division of Bacolod City, for the upcoming 2024 Provincial Athletic Association Meet and the 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet (WVRAA), another assembly was convened on March 19 at the Negros Residences.

The coordination meeting was set for the medical and rescue response, traffic management, and security and safety committees.

During the meeting, the security, safety, and traffic management committee chairs from DepEd Negros Occidental presented their plans in the presence of representatives from various agencies such as the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, and the Bacolod City Police Office. The medical response committee, represented by the officials and staff from DRRM Negros Occidental and the Provincial Health Office, also presented their recommendations to ensure the immediate medical and rescue responses in cases of emergencies and injuries.

For the safety and security, DepEd plans to deploy maximum police visibility in the playing venues and billeting areas, especially during the WVRAA Meet. A well-designed safety and security, and traffic management plans were also stressed as essential during the opening of the meets, where various local chief executives all over the province and the Western Visayas region are expected to be in attendance. 

Provincial Sports Coordinator Anthony Carlo Agustin led the latest coordination meeting with SDO Negros Occidental SGOD Chief Education Supervisor Romeo Sison Jr., and Dency Grace Padillon (SGOD – Education Program Supervisor, SDO Negros Occidental). PGNO’s Karen Dinsay, who is spearheading the secretariat committee, also gave recommendations for the various working committees. 

Both the provincial government and DepEd Negros Occidental are hoping for the efficient preparation, successful execution and smooth conduct of both the provincial and regional meets. A comprehensive coordination meeting has set on March 25, at the Food Terminal Market of Occidental Negros (FTMON) function hall.

The 2024 Provincial Athletic Association Meet will open at the Pana-ad Park and Stadium and will run from April 1-6.

The WVRAA, on the other hand, is set on May 2-7, with the theme of “Nurturing Champions for the World.” The City Government of Bacolod and the Schools Division of Bacolod City are also co-hosting the upcoming regional meet with DepEd Negros Occidental and the PGNO.*
