The Negros Occidental Provincial Government, through the Provincial Sport Office, is gearing up for more tournaments this coming weekend, including the Governor’s Cup 5X5 basketball tournament (eliminations and semi-finals), Governor Bong Lacson Inter-LGU Arnis provincial championship,and theAbanse Negrense road races.

The Governor’s Cup 5X5 basketball tournament (A Tribute to Dodong Bascon’s Contributions to Negros Basketball) will continue eliminations on December 3.

Competing teams include E.B. Magalona, Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod, Silay City, La Carlota City, Cadiz City, and Escalante City.

On Sunday, the tournament will hold its semi-finals at 1 PM. The top two winning teams from each bracket will vie for the semi-final round.

Another round of elimination games was held on November 30, with games between ten teams vying to qualify for the semi-finals. 

In the first game, Escalante City was declared loss by forfeiture versus the municipality of E.B. Magalona. Bacolod City triumphed with a 20-point lead over Silay City in the second game, 78-58. In the third game, the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos (UNO-R) defeated the Cadiz City team with a score of 94-85.

Another team ended up in loss by forfeiture in the fourth game when Talisay City was a no show against Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod. For the final game, the STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU) team emerged victorious in a very close one-point game against La Consolacion College – Bacolod (LCC-B), resulting in a 96-95 scoresheet. 

The tournament championship will be on December 10. Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Provincial Sports Office Head Anthony Carlo Agustin will reportedly attend the championship at the STI-West Negros University Gymnasium, Bacolod City. 

In addition, the Governor Bong Lacson Inter-LGU Arnis Provincial Championship will officially kick off on today at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central. The competition starts at 9 a.m.

Lastly, running enthusiasts from all over the province are expected to participate at the Abanse Negrense Road Races on December 4. Gun start will start at 4 AM with Provincial Sports Office Head Agustin. The running distances are 5K, 10K, and 21K.*
