The local government unit of Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental, is reimposing stricter health and safety measures amid the rising number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.
The city’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases yesterday said in an advisory that it will reactivate its quarantine control points (QCPs) beginning today and will continue indefinitely until further notice.
This is to regulate the flow of people coming in and out of the capital as health authorities scramble with its contact tracing teams and other front-liners to slow down the spread of the virus.
As of Dec. 1, Dumaguete recorded the highest number of active cases in Negros Oriental at 45, Dr. Liland Estacion, assistant provincial health officer, said.
The QCPs to be manned by police officers and barangay officials will be in strategic areas where non-residents are expected to pass through to this capital.
The city IATF also required the wearing of face shields and face masks by stallholders, buyers, and sellers in the public market. Also, government employees and clients are required to wear these before being allowed entry to the offices of the Commission on Elections, City Veterinarian Office, Public Employment Service Office, City Nutrition Office, City Agriculture Office, and City Livelihood and Industries Development Office.*PNA
