Amid intense heat brought about by the El Niño phenomenon, the city government of San Carlos in Negros Occidental will provide free rides to the public, especially from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chief Joe Rocalex Alingasa disclosed that the free rides were agreed upon during a recent meeting of the DRRMC, in partnership with the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

Alingasa said the free rides are an addition to the rides already provided by the Philippine National Police.

He added that individuals, especially senior citizens, and students who walk home between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. “are prone to heat stroke as temperature rises brought on by the effects of El Niño.”

Alingasa said he will meet with the fleet service for the route or pick-up points before the city government implements the free rides.*
