Serves him right! I am referring to the president of the Olympic Games who had to resign when les girls went figuratively up in arms when he was quoted as saying “Women talk too much!” How dare he! But just between us girls, the guy had a right to say it, only we cannot retaliate by saying that men also talk too much, because it wouldn’t be strictly true. I am afraid the men are just waiting for an opportunity to get back at us, so let’s be careful, girls!

Until the CNN keeps showing replays of the siege of the Capitol in Washington that has been blamed on the followers of defeated ex-president Donald Trump. It really was a raucous mob and resulted in the death of at least four people. But the rioters were probably not aware that the cops, some of whom were injured, had body cameras that recorded their faces and so they may not be able to avoid prosecution, especially because it was not a playful demonstration, but a deadly one.

I wonder if all those who had seen the coverage of the mob that the rioters had set a gallows outside the capitol? And there was someone who could be the hangman standing by, too. Would there have been a hanging if the rioters had gotten their way? Has America retrogressed into primitive ways? And those involved can not deny their participation because their faces were recorded. I am sure most of them had no idea that the police officers they were tangling with had those body camera at work, and those who did evil acts must have their faces and acts duly recorded on them.

In our country, and even in our province and city, the main conern now is the acquisition of the vaccines that will protect our people from the still unconquered Coronavirus, a.k.a. COVID, that is still infecting people in several , maybe majority of our local government units. The target date for the arrival of the life-saving vaccine is supposed to be next week, that  is, Monday, February 15, but will there be enough for everyone? Since having been infected and recovered is no guarantee of immunity, how will the vaccine supply be apportioned?

I was amused upon seeing the photo in this paper the other day of policemen issuing citation tickets to citizens caught downtown without the required masks. So our cops are quite serious about this phase of their duty. Just between me and the reader, I often think the mask is reasonable enough, but the face shield is rather an overkill. But I obediently comply, nevertheless, not only because I do not want to be arrested, but I look at the job of the cops as something like that of a parent chastising a child and saying “This is for your own good”.

Our government has sent emissaries to fetch Pinoys residing or working in Myanmar that has been taken over by the military and is now under Martial Law. What a time for the soldiers to misbehave! Is their country free from the  international scourge, or pandemic, that they could still find time for such capers? But perhaps they did it to take advantage of the citizenry distracted by the COVID? Yes, we have also experienced Martial Law, but it was under a power-hungry tandem that the media baptized “The Conjugal  Dictatorship”.

I am happy for the American people. It seems they have elected a president whose heart is in the right place. Instead of focusing on political problems upon his assumption of office, Joseph “Joe” Biden immediately focused on ways and means of subduing the worst enemy that has attacked the world called COVID. As far as I can remember, I never heard his predecessor, Donald Trump, working on it, even if he himself had gone through it. Maybe he belittled it because he had survived – but now must face impeachment cases!

Did you know that some countries have made up lists of places they have tagged as “Red”? No, not because the people there are communists, but they are supposed to be regarded as unsafe, I guess, because of the pandemic. For that matter, one might say the whole world is almost red because this vicious COVID has already been classified as pandemic. I hope it is true, though, that cases in the Philippines, including our province and city, are lessening, even before  the vaccines have reached us, February 15 is the target date, but when the provinces will get them  is still anybody’s guess.*
