Bacolod visual artist Dorothy “Dolly” Ramos-Gatuslao was given a surprise birthday party by her family at Maria Kucina-Familia in Bacolod City recently, an event that her classmates and artist friends attended.
Bacolod blind singer Carl Malone Montecido, former Tawag ng Tanghalan first season finalist of ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime back in 2016, performed song numbers during the birthday celebration.
Gatuslao is the founder of an all-female art group “Feminine Touch” and was past president of the Art Association of Bacolod, the second oldest art organization in the country next to the Art Association of the Philippines.
She was also one of the organizers of The Negros Museum in Bacolod City and the Balay Negrense in Silay City.
Gatuslao was an awardee of Himamaylan City in the field of Culture and Visual Arts. She was a member of the famed “Filipinescas” International Dance Troupe which received the grand prize at the Caceres Spain Dance Festival. The group, whose dances were choreographed by Leonor Orosa, national artist in Performing Arts, also performed in Europe, USA, and Asian countries.
Her first solo exhibit “Spiritual Rendition l”, held at the Philippine Heart Center of the Philippines, won an award. She has also joined several group art exhibitions at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Metro Manila Art, GSIS, Holiday Inn, Orange Gallery, Artes Figuras, and The Negros Museum. Most of her exhibits were for a cause.
Gatuslao was joined by her husband Louie and two sons G-J and Gary, who tendered the surprise party, as well as her classmates and artist-friends Sony Golez, Sandy Solinap and Patty Jane Ku-Ong.*
