An unidentified gunman shot and killed a local government employee yesterday, at his residence in Carmela Subdivision in Brgy. Zone 12- A in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The victim was identified by the police as Mike Lumawag, a 45-year employee of the Talisay City Treasurer’s Office Land Tax Division.

Lumawag, a person with disability, succumbed to multiple injuries, after being shot by the gunman, as he was opening the gate of his residence after bringing his child to a nearby school.

Mayor Neil Lizares ordered the Talisay City police to immediately identify and arrest the suspect behind the killing of Lumawag, who he described as a hardworking employee.

Talisay City police probers are looking into work-related and personal grudges as among the possible motives behind the killing.

In a statement posted on the Talisay City Public Information Office page, Lizares said he extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of Lumawag.

“Please know that I am one with you in seeking justice. This kind of senseless killing and similar actions that pose threats to the Talisaynons have no place in our community,” he stressed.

Witnesses told the police that they heard at least four gunshots.

Several empty shells of a still undetermined caliber of firearms were recovered by the police at the scene of the crime.*
