WV dengue cases decreasing

The Department of Health- Western Visayas reported that dengue cases in Region 6 has been on the downward trend over the past four weeks.

The decrease was attributed to the speedy action and intensified campaign of various local government units, in cooperation of residents in affected communities, who observed the DOH 4S strategy, such as search and destroy seek early consultation, self-protection and supporting fogging operations in hotspot areas.

Based on its Morbidity Week Number 34 (August 21 to 27), there were 277 newly reported dengue cases in Western Visayas.

Of the new cases, 79 were logged in Negros Occidental, 72 in Iloilo province, Antique – 43, Capiz – 35, Aklan – 19, Guimaras – 15, Iloilo City – 10 and four in Bacolod City.

Total dengue cases in the region reached 11,341, from January to Aug. 27 this year, an increase of 597 percent, compared to 1,627 cases logged in the same period last year.

With two more fatalities in Negros Occidental, the dengue related deaths in Western Visayas have risen to 65, DOH-WV report added.*
