Police operatives in Bacolod City confiscated sachets of suspected shabu which resulted in the apprehension of two individuals in a raid led by Police Station 2 at about 6:56 p.m., Tuesday at Purok Kagaykay, Brgy. 2, Bacolod City.

Police Capt. Paul Vincent Pendon, PS2 commander, in an interview identified the arrested suspects as Lifranco Leyes alias Nonoy, 27, of Mayon St., Brgy. Villamonte, and Jonald Sonico, 22, of Purok Kagaykay in Brgy. 2.

Confiscated were one piece elongated heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu used as the buy-bust item, six pieces medium and one-piece elongated heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet with suspected shabu, a coin purse, and P500 marked money.

The recovered suspected shabu weighed more or less 5 grams with a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value worth P34,000.

Shabu is known as “the poor man’s cocaine” and is considered relatively cheap. As an addictive meth stimulant easily accessible and affordable, it is the drug of choice of over 90 percent of Filipino drug users.

The drug evidence will be turned over to Negros Occidental Provincial Crime Laboratory Office for laboratory examination.

The suspects are now in the custody Police Station 2 and may face charges for violation of sections 5 (sale) and 11 (possession) of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.*
