Two tombstone engravers of the Handumanan Public Cemetery were killed in a motorcycle crash along the unfinished portion of the Economic Highway in Brgy. Cabug, Bacolod City, at about 8 p.m. Sunday.

The fatalities were identified by Station 9 chief, P/Maj Richee Gohee as Christopher Bertolano, 26 and his friend Julius Xander Urbano, 37, of Puroks Mabinuligon and San Antonio, Brgy. Handumanan.

Investigation showed that the duo were heading east of the Economic highway near Purok Rose in Brgy. Cabug on a Kawasaki Bajaj motorcycle when the accident happened.

The motorcycle driven by Bertolano reportedly overshot  the unfinished portion of the road causing him to lose control of it, the police said.

Bertolano and Urbano fell from the motorcycle hitting their heads on the ground and resulted in their immediate deaths.

Bertolano’s mother Remedios, in a radio interview, said that his son left their house past 4 p.m. Sunday to follow Urbano, who was in a beach in Brgy. Punta Taytay with friends.

She also said that her son and Urbano may have been under the influence of liquor when the accident happened.

Witnesses said the area where the accident happened is not well lighted. The victims’ bodies are now at the Villanueva Funeral homes.*
