Senate president Juan Miguel Zubiri administers the oathtaking of Rep. Mercedes Alvarez as a new member of the Commission on Appointments.*

Negros Occidental 6th district Rep. Mercedes Alvarez is now a member of the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA).

Alvarez took her oath on March 12, before Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, witnessed by fellow Negrense, retired Lt. Gen. Roberto Ancan, the Senate Sergeant at Arms, among others.

She joined Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya in the CA.

The CA is a constitutional body which confirms or rejects certain political appointments made by the President of the Philippines. Its membership is composed of members either from the House of Representatives and Senate.

In her social media posts, Alvarez said “my new role as a member of the CA reflects the trust my fellow servants and the people of CHICKS continue to have on me, and this trust shall in turn be my fuel to do the job, and to do it well.”

The path of public service may take interesting and unexpected turns, but it’s always worth it, she added.*
