Army soldiers yesterday encountered a group of suspected New People’s Army rebels in Sitio Alao-alao, Brgy. Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

Soldiers of the 15th Infantry Battalion were conducting security patrol on the ongoing government road project in the place when they figured in an encounter with about 12 suspected rebels, believed be remnants of the South West Front of the Komiteng Rehiyonal – Negros/Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor.

Pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels were still ongoing as of yesterday.

Initial military reports said no soldiers involved in the encounter were hurt.

Last week, Army soldiers also encountered suspected NPA rebels in Brgy. Inayawan, Cauayan, resulting in the recovery of a .45 caliber pistol and an anti-personnel mine, among other war materials.*
