Incumbent Negros Occidental 5th District Representative Ma. Lourdes “Marilou” Arroyo has maintained a comfortable lead over rivals, former Board Member Emilio “Dino” Yulo and former barangay captain Makoy Javelosa.

Based on the survey result released by a Manila-based firm, the sister-in-law of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo gained a rating of 58 percent leaving behind her closest rival, Yulo, with only 29 percent, a press release from the camp of Arroyo said.

Javelosa, on the other hand, obtained an eight percent rating, the survey results showed.

It is Arroyo’s first time to have an opponent. The second-termer congresswoman ran unopposed during the 2019 elections.

Her late brother, former congressman Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo, was also unopposed in the 2007 and 2010 elections.

The survey attributed the rise in Arroyo’s rating to the massive infrastructure projects in the district as well as their scholarships and livelihood programs.*
