The Group of Negrense Artists (GONA) won the Best Booth Presentation award during the 2-day Art Tienda: Bulan Sang Taliambong event at the Art District, Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City yesterday.

Other participating groups include Gallery G, Pintor Kulapol based in Sagay City, Silay United Group of Artists (SUGA), Hibalag from Cadiz City, and Artisticrew.

Charlie Co, Art Tienda organizer, yesterday said the event is in celebration of the Arts Month this February and aims to gather more information on what other artists from other towns and cities outside of Bacolod are up to.

“It also aims to encourage collaboration between the artists and their respective local government units so the LGUs will know that Art Tienda is helping promote artists in their locality. There is a need for collaboration between the LGUs and the artists so the latter will be supported by their LGUs for this event,” he said.

Co said that thru this event, they were able to see so many potential artists who only need to be gathered or organized. The event does not only promote visual arts but is multi-media and also involves music, poetry, dance, and mural painting. A film presentation was also held yesterday.

The idea of organizing Art Tienda is similar to that of holding art in the park. They want art collectors who have limited budget to bring home an original artwork, at an affordable price that ranges from P500 to P20,000, he said.

“They may not realize that what they have purchased today might become very valuable someday,” Co added.*
