The city government of Bacolod will be tapping private resorts as part of its “emergency action” to address lack of water supply, amid the ongoing El Niño phenomenon.

In his radio program “Isugid kay Mayor” on Sunday, Benitez aired his concern over the water supply in Bacolod City, which with the onset of summer, is expected to be aggravated by the droughts in the next several months.

We have been receiving reports from the barangays that there is slow to no water in their areas, Benitez said.

The city government will tap water from the Bocal-Bocal Spring Resort in Brgy. Alangilan, Forbes Hill water system in Brgy. Bata, and two other private resorts that are expected to supply an additional 15 million liters per day, he added.

The water tapped from these private water sources, the mayor said, will be injected into the existing water system of BACIWA-Prime Water.

Benitez added that permits and other documentation will be temporarily waived by the city government, as it is an emergency situation.

He expects completion within two months.*
