The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting the Department of Education Bacolod Division to provide adequate measures and safety precautions against heat stroke and the effects of high temperature to the students and faculty of primary and secondary schools in the City of Bacolod.
The resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Puentevella said that according to PAGASA’s bulletin dated December 20, 2023, strong El Niño is expected to continue through December 2023 up to January 2024, and majority of global climate models suggest that El Niño will likely persist until March, April and May.
Due to the persistence of El Niño, it is expected that rising heat and temperature is inevitable, which can cause heatstroke, it said.
The DepEd Division of Bacolod is requested to provide adequate safety precautions and safety measures to ensure the safety of students and faculty against the effects of high temperatures and extreme heat brought by El Niño, the resolution added.*
