Despite the heightened registration campaign, Provincial Comelec supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria admitted that the 52,655 persons who applied for voter registration in Negros Occidental is still “below target.”

The Commission on Elections target is to register 200,000 new voters, in preparation for the May 2025 elections.

Of those who applied for voter registration, 14,714 were in the highly urbanized city of Bacolod.

The voter registration for the 2025 elections will end on September 30.

Ananoria said they are targeting to increase voter registrations during the second and third quarters of the year.

Over the past several months, satellite registration in different local government units were conducted by Election Officers, aimed at further increasing the number of registered voters.

The Election Registration Board (ERB) in Negros Occidental is expected to convene on Monday to act on the application of new voters and requests for transfer.

Voters who did not vote in the last two elections are expected to be delisted by the Comelec.*
