Park Inn Hotel by Radisson Bacolod is hosting an art exhibition featuring 19 pieces of the latest works of two Negrense visual artists.

The exhibit titled “Day Off” that opened on July 21 and will run until October 8, showcases the works of Revo Yanson in pen and ink, and Ryn Paul Gonzales’ oil paintings on sugarcane machetes, locally known as “espading”.

Day off is a term we use when we want to take a break from our weekly routine to do the things we love.

Both Yanson and Gonzales are active members of the Art Association of Bacolod-Negros.

Gonzales hails from La Carlota and later relocated to Cebu where he became engrossed in social activism and actively participated in the student council during his university years, which led him to discover his joy in protest arts and installations.

In 2002, he settled in Negros where he expressed his artistry through mural painting and installation arts with concepts about environmental protection. He uses art to raise awareness on the various issues encompassing life.

Yanson is a co-founder of the KAMI art group and Rhymes of Resistance, a monthly poetry reading in Negros. He is affiliated with DIHON Art collective, whose works focus on living entities” psychological and metaphysical conditions. He takes interest in art that transcends social borders and reflects the innermost realms of consciousness.

His works had been featured at the PAHM Art Show at Kerckhoff Gallery in Los Angeles, California.

He thinks of his artworks as visual poetry, an outpour of his cognitive, affective, and psychomotor faculties. He has been following the spontaneous flow of his art for many years, watching with fascination their repetition and evolution.

Meanwhile, Park Inn general manager Sherwin Lucas said that looking at their artworks awakened an old perspective of rest. “A time travel to a period when we define fun as a stroll in the park, where we enjoy face-to-face communications with friends and family, and when nature has become our playground.”*
