The Municipality of E. B. Magalona, spearheaded by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), joined the rest of the country in the simultaneous kickoff of the observance of Fire Prevention Month on March 1, according to a press release from E.B. Magalona PIO.

Mayor Marvin Malacon, Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, Sangguniang Bayan Member Isidro Gomed Jr., and acting Municipal Fire Marshal SFO3 Marc Stephen Trajeras led the opening program at the public plaza.

In his message at the program, Malacon quoted an idiom, “prevention is better than cure,” as he underscored the importance of preventing deadly fire incidents rather than putting out the fire.

As we observe Fire Prevention Month, let us work together to keep our communities safe by preventing fire incidents, the mayor added.

Prior to the opening program, participants held a motorcade from the Municipal Fire Station to the highway until the boundary of E. B. Magalona and Silay City, then to the boundary of E. B. Magalona and Victorias City, and finally to the Public Plaza.

Motorcade participants included personnel of Municipal Fire Station, Municipal Police Station, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), National Jail Management and Penology Training Institute (NJMPTI) Visayas Off-Campus, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)- Barangay Manta-angan, Victorias City DRRMO, and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT).

Other activities were a recorida along major streets and distribution of leaflets to residents to remind them on fire safety awareness and familiarization of exit drills at home.

Also part of the Day 1 activities was the simultaneous blowing of sirens at the Municipal Fire Station at 12 noon.

The Fire Prevention Month is an annual month-long campaign on saving lives and properties from fire. This year’s theme, “Sa Pag-iwas Sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa,” highlights the importance of teamwork among our firemen, community leaders, business owners, and citizens in protecting lives and properties from the deadly effects of fire.

In observance of Fire Prevention Month, the BFP- EBM is inviting everyone to participate in its upcoming events as “we work to increase fire safety awareness and to intensify emergency readiness and disaster preparedness in a more inclusive way.”*
