United Negros Alliance president, Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer, yesterday said that they have already made their choice on their vice gubernatorial bet, the running mate of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, that UNegA will field during the May 2025 elections.
Ferrer, who earlier announced his intention to run for the Negros Occidental 4th district congressional post, replacing his wife, Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer, however, said it is not yet the proper time to announce their chosen candidate for vice governor.
The UNegA – Love Negros coalition started in 2019, through the efforts of the late Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. and then Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, where they fielded Lacson as governor and Ferrer as vice governor, a tandem that carried over to the 2022 elections, and it is expected to continue in the midterm elections next year.
“We already have an internal agreement,” Ferrer said, stressing that “it’s too early” to announce.
On Monday, Lacson, a member of the political group Love Negros, said he is awaiting the decision of UNegA, their coalition partner.
“The choice is final because I’m the one who made the choice. Unless otherwise, I may still change my mind. Everything is still not final,” Ferrer stressed.
Pressed to give a clue on their possible candidate for vice governor, Ferrer said “you will know during the filing of candidacy.”
The filing of certificates of candidacy for the elections next year is slated for October this year.*
