The Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD6) has reported that 84.38 percent or 15,586 of the 18,470 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the region have recovered, as of Nov. 16.

As per regional case bulletin No. 234 released by the DOH-CHD6 on Monday, the region has registered 98 new confirmed cases, bringing the region’s active cases to 2,401.

The new cases were from Negros Occidental with 45; Iloilo City, 19; Bacolod City, 11; Iloilo province, 10 and Capiz has nine and four from Aklan.

Eight of the new cases are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), and the rest are local cases.

The region has 108 newly-recoveries, and the number of deaths stood at 483 with the addition of six new verified on Sunday.

“There are deaths but not as much as before. They are those with comorbidity and whose viral load is high,” Medical Officer Marie Jocelyn Te said in a phone interview Monday.

Even with the lower active cases and high recoveries, the public is encouraged to continue observing the minimum health standards.

“We should not be complacent. But if the public will just cooperate, then there is a big chance that the (number of) cases will go down,” Te added.

She said the public must continue to wear face mask and face shield, wash hands frequently, observe safe physical distancing and cough etiquette, and to know the correct information about the infection.

“Let us protect ourselves and also protect others by following our minimum health standards,” she added.*PNA
