BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Officers and members of the Alpha Kappa Rho or Akrho Hinobaan Chapter are seeking justice for the death of their fraternal brother.

Akrho-Hinobaan adviser Molave Candulisas said Ulysis “Esik” Mahinay, who was an organizer and leader of Partido Asenso Hinobaan, was murdered on January 6 and despite having strong evidence, authorities have not filed a case against the perpetrator because witnesses were afraid to testify.

Candulisas said that despite being warned, both verbally and thru text messages, Mahinay was confident that the perpetrator, who belonged to another political party, wouldn’t kill him.

But at about 8:40 p.m. on January 6, he was shot on the head with a lone bullet from a .45 caliber pistolby a gunman who immediately fled onboard a waiting motorcycle, but left behind a backpack containing clothes and a cap, he said.

Candulisas said Mahinay was then rushed by his neighbors and relatives to a hospital but was declared dead-on-arrival by attending physicians.

They have also received reports that the mastermind behind the crime will be targeting another victim, he said.

Mahinay has no enemies in their town. He is an active leader and organizer of the Partido Asenso Hinobaan under their standard bearer for mayor Sangguniang Bayan Daph Anthony Reliquias and vice mayoralty candidate Mayor Ernesto Estrao, Candulisas said.

He also used to be connected to another other political party. They believe his murder was politically motivated, he said.

Akrho Hinobaan denounces and condemns the murder of its fraternal brother Ulysis “Esik” Mahinay, and are calling for a peaceful and murder-free election in Hinobaan, Candulisas added.*
