Mayor Alejandro Mirasol said yesterday he is hoping that the equity of the incumbent will prevail in the Binalbagan mayoralty race in the elections next year.
Former mayor Emmanuel Aranda will reportedly challenge Mirasol anew in the mayoral race.
Both are members of the United Negros Alliance.
Although he lacks the needed resources, Aranda, who had lost to Mirasol in the 2019 elections, said he has decided to make a comeback.
Aranda used to be the vice-mayor of Mirasol, before he was elected congressman of the 5th district of Negros Occidental, for nine years.
UNegA secretary general Salvador Escalante announced earlier that they will support Mirasol, in observance of the equity of the incumbent.
Mirasol said it is the right of anyone to run for public office.
“It is the people who will judge,” he added.
He said he was assured of support by incumbent 5th district Rep. Maria Lourdes Arroyo.*
