Looking at the need to come up with a road map, noticing that many things got underway before the pandemic, and realizing the need to revive its quest, the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary and Philippine Coast Guard commenced an indoctrination and orientation program at the main campus of VMA Global College on May 26, a press release from VMA said.

PCGA Auxiliary Commodore Dannyl Yap, 618th squadron director and former Sea Scout director of 602.12 Sea Hawk Division through district auxiliary director, chairperson of its Community Relations Committee, former  Director Auxiliary District Coast Guard of  Coast Guard Auxiliary District Western Visayas ( CGADWV), and president of VMA Global College and Training Centers, PCGA Commodore Elizabeth Orola-Salabas, guests of honor, supported the 602nd Squadron in hosting the indoctrination and orientation to close friends, relatives, and VMA community.

PCG PO2 Augustine Marcial, POIC S-7 of the Coast Guard Station Northern Negros Occidental, emphasized the obligation of PCG, highlighting its four organizational functions, anchored in RA 9983, associated with PCGA’s role in Maritime Safety (MARSAF), Maritime Search and Rescue (MARSAR), Maritime Environment Protection (MAREP), and Maritime Community Relations (MCOMREL).

Yap, as well as PCGA Auxiliary Captains Ferdinand Turbanos PCGA, and Juan Orola Jr., invited everyone to make oneself heard by volunteering with such a noble cause and inspired them to sacrifice for the safety and security of the Filipino people, and carrying out the mission of PCGA and PCG.

In light of the mandated order stipulated in Republic Act 9983 section 11, PCGA shall assist the PCG in promoting the safety of life and property at sea, the preservation of the marine environment and its resources, the conduct of maritime search and rescue, the maintenance of aids to navigation, and such other activities that enhance maritime community relations which include civic action, participation under the National Service Training Program, youth development, recreational safety, and other related activities, 602nd Squadron Director, PCGA Capt. Remedios Johanna Vargas with the squads committed to stepping up to the plate for the revival of the 602nd Squadron, under her leadership, thus willingly invite all VMAers, friends, and colleagues to become a member of PCGA 602nd Squadron.

Orola-Salabas, Maritime Community Relations (MCOMREL) chairperson and president of VMA, acknowledged the participants and commended the efforts of the dedicated 602nd Squadron led by Vargas, with her support ensigns, led by Ensign Martin Dale Yogore, PCGA Deputy Squadron Director for Administration.

“I am so happy looking after everyone realizing that my fellows from various organizations, rescue groups from Kabankalan City, and my VMA family responded to this call of indoctrination and orientation. Rest assured, PCGA would dive in without thinking twice and pull up to assist the PCG in fulfilling the mission entrusted to us,” Orola-Salabas said.

“We do our best to revive the spirit of volunteerism and have a firm commitment to help our constituents and encourage them to partake in our plans and programs for socio-economic development and the marine environment.  So, let us serve the country together,” Orola-Salabas added.*
