The Office of the Civil Defense 6 yesterday conferred the provincial government of Negros Occidental and eight local government units with the GAWAD KALASAG Seal of Excellence 2023, during the awarding rites held at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City.

Ma. Aletha Nogra, OCD 6 Disaster Risk Reduction and Management division chief, led the conferring of awards to the provincial government, which were received by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, and representatives of highly urbanized Bacolod City, the cities of Victorias, La Carlota, San Carlos, Silay, and Talisay, as well as the municipalities of E.B. Magalona and Manapla.

The awardees, as adjudged by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, generally adhere to the standards for the establishment and functionality of the CDRRMOs as prescribed in the PDRRMC Act of 2010, according to a statement issued by the provincial government Public Information Office.

Lacson said that the award is an affirmation that the LGUs are on the right track, and at the same time a continuous call to action for the betterment of the LGUs’ disaster response and resilience.

“By remaining committed to staying informed and adhering to science-based systems, technological tools, and opportunities, we can effectively address disaster risk reduction, including the protection and safety of our responders,” he said.*
