Son kills pa, 2 others die on Jan 1

A 76-year-old widower was killed allegedly by his own son on January 1 in Brgy. Concepcion, Talisay City in Negros Occidental, as Negrenses welcomed the year 2022.

The victim identified by the Talisay City police as Romulo Espenido, 76, succumbed to multiple injuries after he was mauled and hit with a stone by his own son, Julius Roy, based on the testimony of witness Norberto Tanesta Jr.

The suspect, who was later arrested by the police, is now detained at the custodial facility of the Talisay City Police Station, while the victim was declared dead on arrival at the City Health Office.

Prior to his arrest, Julius Roy, younger son of the victim, had a minor injury in his forehead, police said.

A mentally-ill person identified by the police as Francisco Tanguan Jr, was found dead by Forest Ranger Dong Miranda at Sewahon 3 in Brgy. VF Gustilo in Cadiz City.

The cadaver of Tanguan, 30, of Brgy. Tinampa-an, Cadiz City, was already in an advanced state of decomposition, police said.

A laborer identified by the police as Bernardo Gustilo, 54, was also declared dead on arrival at the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital, after he and his fellow laborer, Arnold Sangalang, were both stabbed allegedly by Noli dela Torre also on January 1 at Crossing Dulong in Sitio Pislong, Brgy. Hilamonan, Kabankalan City.

Sangalang, 21, who suffered a stab wound in the stomach, is now being treated at a hospital in Bacolod City, while Gustilo succumbed to a stab wound in the chest, police also said.*
