A resolution commending the election of a Bacolodnon as national chairperson of the Student Council Alliance of the Philippines for the next two years was unanimously approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City Wednesday.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Ayesha Villlaflor, lauded Ken Paolo Gilo for making history as the first Bacoleño to hold the post.

Gilo, 20, a product of the Negros Occidental High School Humanities and Social Sciences strand is now a Political Science freshman at the University of St. La Salle.

He was elected City Boy Mayor during the 51st Boys and Girls Week of the Rotary Club of Metro Bacolod in 2018.

The Student Council Alliance of the Philippines is the largest national formation and alliance of student councils, student council officers, student organizations, and student political parties in the country.

It aims to provide a venue for forging unities among students and youth leaders towards advancing the welfare, aspirations, and rights of Filipino students through democratic and non-violent means “as we envision a nation where we are equipped with empowered leadership.”

SCAP is actively involved in local, sectoral, and national campaigns, with a focused leadership capable of responding to new challenges and opportunities. It is also working for progressive reforms in the educational system through executive and legislative advocacy by forging a dynamic partnership with various organizations and institutions that advance the advocacy for an accessible, relevant and quality education.

On its 24th founding anniversary recently, the SCAP held its 11th National Congress via Zoom, attended by student leaders and organizations in the Philippines, and with Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Risa Hontiveros, and lawyer Chel Diokno as some of the guests.*
