Summit undefeated after Fil-Sino elims

The team Summit finished the elimination round of the first Fil-Sino Michael Miranda Basketball Tournament with a perfect 10-0 record, after defeating the five-man team Heineken on March 24, Friday, with a score of 91-72. 

Summit didn’t have problems getting past Heineken and dominated the contest, securing a 22-8 lead in the first quarter, behind four shots from behind the arc from Jappy Cuaycong. It was a ten-point game at the halftime break, 53-43, despite Heineken’s Topper Kho and JP Montemayor combining for six triples.

They pulled away for good, following a 22-17 third quarter, and the game was practically over by the time the fourth quarter started, which Summit also won with a 16-12 score, when Renz Illustracion dropped four triples.

Summit now possess a twice to beat advantage, along with the number 2 seed Tiger Black as the quarterfinals forge ahead. 

Jappy Cuaycong and Michael Venegas led Summit with 18 points apiece, Renz Illustracion added 12 points and Miko Yee 9 points.  Topper Kho with a game-high 32 points for Heineken, while JP Montemayor and Archie Defensor added 15 points each.

Vying for a spot in the semis are Vitamilk (3) versus Beer na Beer (6), and Brew Kettle (4) against Spritz Hard Seltzer (5). The winners will face the top 2 teams on Wednesday March 29, 2023, and the finals are slated for March 31 and April 3.*
