Thirteen livestock and poultry raisers in E. B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, yesterday received either gilts or breeder piglets, at the turnover of livelihood assistance held at the municipal public plaza court.
They were among the beneficiaries from Districts II and III, who received livelihood assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental.
The LGUs of Manapla of District II, and Murcia, E. B. Magalona, and Talisay City, all in District III, each received three gilts and 10 breeder piglets during the turnover ceremony.
Leading the ceremony were Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, Board Member Manuel Frederick Ko, Mayor Marvin Malacon, Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, and OIC-Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana.
In a statement issued by the EB Magalona Public Information Office, the assistance was part of the Negros Occidental Typhoon “Odette” Livestock and Poultry Rehabilitation Program, a joint project of the Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office 6 and the Provincial Government through the Provincial Veterinary Office.
The project was funded under the DA’s 2022 Quick Response Fund by way of transfer of funds to the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, amounting to P36.5 million, and distributed to qualified livestock and poultry raisers across the province.
Also present at the activity were E. B. Magalona Sangguniang Bayan Members Gilda Parcon, Wyndel Depasucat, Jovie Madayag, Reylan Gamboa Sr., Joey Pugales, and Isidro Gomed Jr., Acting Municipal Agriculturist Efren Garcia Jr., DA-6 personnel, and representatives from LGUs of Districts II and III.
Meanwhile, Garcia said, the Victorias City Veterinary Office also conducted a whole-day free spaying and neutering in front of the E. B. Magalona Municipal Building yesterday.*
