With the onset of the election period for May 2022 polls, the Philippine Army yesterday reminded candidates to be wary of the extortion activities of the New People’s Army.

Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, yesterday urged candidates in the May elections next year, not to succumb to rebel extortion activities.

Pasaporte urged candidates to coordinate with concerned authorities, instead of complying with extortion demands, stressing that they have contingency plans on how to address it.

Candidates who may extend support to the NPA, that has already been declared as a terrorist group, will be held liable, as charges could be filed against them in court, he stressed.

Pasaporte said the NPA in Negros needs logistical support to sustain their needs.

The Provincial Joint Security Coordinating Council, composed of the Philippine Army, PNP, Commission on Election and other law enforcement agencies, is up for activation, as soon as the election period starts.*
