A public utility jeepney driver died after he fell into a 30-foot deep well in Purok Active, Barangay Mandalagan in Bacolod City, at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
The police said the victim, Felizardo Constancio, 48, of the barangay, was digging a well that had dried up and was already midway when he accidentally let go of the rope he was holding and fell, P/Maj. Richard Fajarito, Station 3 chief, said yesterday.
A shovel was also found in the well, he added.
Rescuers had to use a compressor to get to Constancio and it took two hours before he was recovered.
Constancio might have died due to suffocation, as residents who tried to get into the well, told the police there was already no air when one reached the middle part of the well that is about a meter in diameter, Fajarito added.*SGG
