The local government of EB Magalona yesterday received a plaque of recognition from the Office of the Civil Defense, as a national awardee for being a “Fully Compliant” LGU in the 2022 Gawad KALASAG Seal of Excellence in Disaster Risk and Reduction Management, and Humanitarian Assistance, during awarding rites held at the Diversion 21 Hotel in Iloilo City.
The award was received by Mary Angeline Gustilo, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), in behalf of Mayor Marvin Malacon.
Gustilo said the EB Magalona DRRMO thanked Mayor Malacon and the Sangguniang Bayan headed by Vice Mayor Eric Matulac for getting the award.
Malacon, who chairs the Municipal Risk, Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), congratulated the MDDRMO led by Gustilo for a job well done.
“Your hard work and selflessness in helping our fellow Saraviahanons in times of disasters did not go unnoticed. Your brand of service is what put the Municipality of EB Magalona in the roster of excellent LGUs in the country in terms of disaster risk reduction and management,” Malacon said.
KALASAG, a term for “shield” used by early Filipinos to protect them from the attacks of enemies, also stands for “KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan.”
Gawad KALASAG, or GK, serves as the country’s recognition and award scheme for LGUs and other stakeholders that promote disaster risk reduction and management scheme.*
