A green sea turtle was found stranded on the coastline of Brgy. Taba-ao in Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Sunday, the office of Sagay Marine Reserve (SMR) reported.

Based on the incident report from SMR, fishermen Delfin and Dondon found the turtle stranded in one of the fishnets on the shore of Purok Paglaum, Brgy. Taba-ao.

Representatives from SMR, PNP Sagay, Philippine Coast Guard and barangay tanods went to the location and found that the turtle is male, weighing 150 kilograms and measures 47 inches in length and 38 inches in width. The report also noted no injuries found on the turtle.

SMR PaSU thanked the team for ensuring the safe release and to remind others to follow the same, should marine life be found stranded.

Punong Barangay Edgardo Joy Vasquez said the stranded sea turtle was found afloat during low tide and he immediately instructed them to secure it and coordinate with SMR.

The turtle was immediately released into the sea near Carbin Reef.*
