A suspect in a grenade throwing incident on Tuesday night was apprehended by the police, following a pursuit operation in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
Mayor Renato Gustilo disclosed that the arrested suspect, whose identity was withheld, turned out to be a job order worker of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 1st Engineering District satellite office in San Carlos City.
The grenade explosion at a street side café at Sitio Medina in Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, led to injuries to three persons and inflicted damage to a vehicle owned by PMSgt. Leonardo Luage.
Police probers are still establishing the motive of the grenade throwing incident.
The suspect, according to Mayor Gustilo, was arrested at his residence. He was reportedly seen on CCTV footage on board a motorcycle, after the incident.
San Carlos City chief, PLt Col. Nazer Canja, said that the suspect was identified by an eyewitness present at the scene of the crime.
The police also recovered a helmet and the motorcycle used during the incident.
Gustilo plans to implement preventive measures to stop recurring crimes in San Carlos City, by issuance of an executive order disallowing motorcycle drivers to use helmets, bonnets, and long facemasks (neck gaiters) within the city.*
