A police chief was injured, while his assailant was killed, and two others were hurt, during an anti-illegal gambling raid conducted by police on Saturday night in Ilog, Negros Occidental.

Injured were PCapt. Thurslie Castillo, Ilog police chief, and his assailants, identified as John Mark Redoble, 25, and his 17-year-old nephew who was not identified for being a minor, according to PCpl. Ryan Gilongos, Ilog police desk officer.

Another suspect, identified by Gilongos as Abundio Redoble, 35, was declared dead on arrival at the Kabankalan District Hospital.

Initial police investigations indicate that PCapt. Castillo and five members of the Ilog Police Station conducted an anti-illegal gambling raid at Km 110 in Brgy. Dancalan, Ilog, where about 30 persons were reportedly participating.

During the raid, the Redoble brothers and their nephew, armed with bladed weapons and an ice pick, stabbed at Capt. Castillo, who was hit on the right leg, left buttocks and right elbow, Gilongos said.

In self-defense, Castillo managed to shoot and hit three of his attackers, who were consequently brought to the Kabankalan District Hospital for treatment of their injuries, police investigations further showed.

Gilongos also said that John Mark Redoblo, the 25-year-old younger brother of Abundio, was transferred to a hospital in Bacolod City, for further treatment of his injuries, while their injured 17-year-old nephew was turned over yesterday to the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

Capt. Castillo, who is being treated of his injuries at the Holy Mother of Mercy Hospital in Kabankalan City, is now in stable condition, he added.

Recovered from the scene of incident were an ice pick and two bladed weapons.*
