The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved Wednesday a resolution authored by Councilor Vladimir Gonzalez that aims to address the problems of homelessness and demolitions involving informal settler families in Bacolod City.

Gonzalez sponsored a resolution encouraging all private landowners, banks and financial institutions, government owned and controlled corporations and other government instrumentalities in Bacolod City, to offer their real properties for donation, voluntary sale, or otherwise dispose of their properties in whatever modes and means for beneficial and absolute use of the Bacolod City Government housing and resettlement programs and projects, and for other similar purposes.

The resolution said it is the policy of the local government of Bacolod City to immediately address homelessness and demolition of informal settler families by providing adequate, comfortable and affordable homes and sustainable human settlement areas in the city.

The city mayor is authorized to negotiate and enter into contract for the fulfillment of this resolution, and may by ordinance, executive order and other means provided by law or ordinance, provide incentives to private land owners, in pursuit of this legislation, it added.

Gonzalez is chairman of the SP Committee on Urban Poor, Housing and Resettlement.*
