Five hundred fourteen VMA graduates successfully attained their Bachelor of Science degrees in diverse fields, including Marine Transportation, Marine Engineering, Hospitality Management, Tourism, and Business Administration with a specialization in Financial Management, as they were awarded their well-deserved diplomas, a press release from VMA said.

Capt. Alexander Abilo, president of OSM Shipping Philippines, Captain of Philippine Navy (Reserve), Commodore PCGA, imparted his words of wisdom in his commencement address to the graduates of VMA Global College.

Abilo highlighted the importance of qualities such as honesty, respect, integrity, and dedication. He conveyed to the students that honesty is the highest calling from God and will empower them to soar high. “You were molded and trained by this institution to achieve greater heights and attain integrity through honesty and dedication to persevere until the end.”

He further stated that “If you are honest, God will never leave you and will help you in everything that you do, for He knows that you can create your path as you embark, without fear of stepping out of your comfort zone. Just look forward to excelling. Do not remain poor, but stay positive with a lot of opportunities waiting for you.”

“I know that your training at the VMA Global College has not been easy.  It was hemmed with rules, under a strict code of conduct.  Aside from your academic performance, all of your actions were under stringent inspection and assessment.  Everything has to be done to ensure you acquire the discipline that puts you above the rest. With this in mind, be grateful to them, your Alma Mater, the people who support and believe in you. You are the young men and women who are empowered to soar high and conquer the rough seas to bring honor to your parents, your institution, your country, and above all, to God,” Abilo imparted.

Capt. Edgardo Baratang, the lead launching officer of K Line Philippines, also encouraged the graduates to always be at their best and be one with all stakeholders as they embarked on their journey.

He emphasized the importance of staying updated with the latest global trends and the evolving maritime industry landscape. As their partner in government, he vows to ensure the world-class competency and professionalism of Filipino seafarers through high-quality education and training.

The speakers, Commodore  Alexander Abilo, and Captain Edgardo Baratang, along with Captain Leopoldo Tenorio, president of Marlow Navigation, scholarship provider with CM Joemar Masacote, Senior Crewing Manager and  Jane Florentino representing Capt. Hernani Fuesca, director and advisor of Leonis Navigation, launched the maritime graduates into their on-board ship job training.

VMA president, Commodore Elizabeth Salabas, led the graduation ceremonies, while chairperson, Juan Orola Jr. presided over the launching ceremony.*
