A World War 2 vintage bomb discovered in Brgy. Patag, Silay City, Negros Occidental, was detonated yesterday by PNP Explosives Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group personnel in Sitio Sibato, Brgy. Guimbalaon in the city.
Maj. Gary Alan Resuma, EODCG chief in Region 6, said yesterday that the 800-pound aerial vintage bomb was unearthed from a quarry site in the barangay last year.
Resuma said that another 100-pound vintage bomb was also surrendered to them for proper disposal.
Barangay Patag was the site of massive bombardment by the United States Air Force during the last days of World War 2 in Negros Island, where the Japanese Imperial Forces made their last strongholds. The surrender of more vintage bombs and unlicensed firearms was an offshoot of the “Armas Baylo Bugas (guns for rice)” initiative of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, through its 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company.*
