The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Negros Occidental is closely monitoring several drug personalities who may possibly extend financial assistance to candidates in the May 2022 elections.

Nicholas Gomez, PDEA-Negros Occidental head, has admitted that they have been monitoring several drug personalities in the past who have given financial support to local candidates.

In past years, some prominent drug personalities were linked to politicians and even police officers in the illegal drug trade.

PDEA is also working hard to liberate barangays in Negros Occidental where illegal drugs are proliferating.

Out of 601 barangays in Negros Occidental, PDEA said they have declared as drug free 269 drug cleared barangays, and 13 out of 61 barangays in Bacolod City.*
