Cities of San Carlos, Bago lead Gov. Cup football qualifying

San Carlos City proved to be one of the strong football teams as it took the lead in the Governor’s Cup Football Provincial Championship Qualifying North Negros category, hosted by the city of Escalante on October 1, Saturday.

In the 12-under (born 2010) North Negros category, the city of San Carlos won against Sagay City with a 7-1 score. For the 17-under (born 2005), San Carlos City also emerged victorious against the city of Victorias with a 6-0 score.

Conversely, Cadiz City ranked second in the 12-under and 17-under categories. The team defeated Club de Hermanos de Futbol (CHFC) with a score of 4-2 and Escalante City with a score of 5-2. 

On Day Two of the qualifying match for Central and South Negros teams in Bago City on Oct. 2, Sunday, Bago City triumphed in both the 12-under and 17-under categories. The team defeated Trinity Christian School FC and the San Enrique team with a 6-0 score.

Aside from the cities of Bago and San Carlos, other participating teams were CHFC, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Victorias City, and Escalante City in the North Negros categories. The South and Central Negros teams included SSA Universal FC, Tumandok FC, Dolphins FC, Trinity Christian School FC, Pontevedra, STI-WNU, USLS, BCNHS, Talisay City, and San Enrique.

The 12-under (born 2010) category followed the 9-a-side with offside football rules, while the 17-under (born 2005) followed the 11-a-side with offside rules.

Meanwhile, the Governor’s Cup Football Provincial Championship Qualifying Tournament will continue on Oct. 8 (Saturday) in Pontevedra for the South and Central Negros teams. The North Negros teams will also proceed on Oct. 9 (Sunday) to Sagay City.

The Governor’s Cup Football Provincial Championship, in partnership with Abanse Negrense Sports Programs, is part of the initiative led by Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson and Provincial Sports Office Head Anthony Carlo Agustin. According to the press release from the PSO, they are in high hopes that through these programs, they could promote grassroots development among local youth with an interest in sports.*
