Gov. Cup Basketball championship Dumaguete vs STI-WNU

The championship round of the Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball Tournament (A Tribute to Dodong Bascon’s Contribution to Negros Basketball)will be decided this weekend, where Dumaguete City and STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU) will vie for the title on December 10, at the STI-WNU Gymnasium at 1 p.m. 

The game for third place will be between Bacolod City ABB and E.B. Magalona, to be followed by the championship game between Dumaguete and will STI-WNU for the title. 

Prior to the championship battle, six teams competed in the last round of eliminations on December 3. E.B. Magalona toppled Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod (CSA-B) with only a two-point margin, 81-79. 

La Carlota City, on the other hand, won against Silay City via forfeiture. The last two teams – Cadiz City and Escalante City – were also declared loss by forfeiture during the final elimination games.

On December 4, the semi-final round started with Dumaguete City playing against Bacolod City ABB. The Negros Oriental-hailed team crushed Bacolod by 27 points, 99-72. The STI-WNU team won against E.B. Magalona with a score of 95-74. 

The Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball Tournamentis part of Governor Eugenio Lacson’s Abanse Negrense Grassroots Sports Development Programs where he hopes to create and establish more opportunities to foster the growth and development of the Negrense youth in different sports activities.*
