Twinkling with Ninfa R. Leonardia

Some people would think it is nothing extraordinary, but I would say that it one breakthrough in medicine that will be most appreciated by the whole world. And what do you think it is? The inventors call it the “needle-free” injection, and I am sure it is one thing that patients and doctors will welcome very heartily. The inventors, if we call them that will certainly gain recognition in medical history as it will facilitate treatment of patients in a way nobody had thought of before. And I, for one, hope that it will soon be adopted by our medical practitioners here.

***

I’m sorry the item announcing it did not give more information about how it is to be administered, but I am sure we will not only hear about it soon, but also find our doctors and hospital staff and other professionals whose work involves sick people, and especially young children. They call it the “needle-free” injections, and I am sure we will be adopting it in our country soon. However the item I read announcing it did not include details, despite the fact that they continued to refer to the process as “injection”.

Just imagine how helpful that will be, especially for children! I can still remember feeling sympathetic whenever I see young kids being administered “shots”, as many refer to it now. And not only children, but some adults also try to avoid the needle when they are sick. I hope more details about this new process will be published or announced by the media soon, and that it will be adopted in all countries, including ours. I still remember clearly some classmates running away, or hiding in the comfort rooms at school when vaccination times come. I hope to hear more about the procedure in the coming days.

But it seems that vaccinations are not being prioritized these days, with so many other problems confronting this generation. From all over the world we hear news about floods as well as other calamities that seem to crop up in many countries nowadays. By the way, the “needle-less” injection process was reportedly discovered by Dutch researchers, and for patients who fear the needle as if it could cause their demise, this one is surely a very welcome breakthrough in medicine!

I am ashamed to admit that I could no longer recall more details about the Tiananmen Square incident that had shocked the world several years ago, but a new development about it has come up that has raised both condemnation and appreciation. Seems there are groups who favor its dismantling, believing it is a reminder of something bad associated with their country. These are the ones who would rather forget something that had been a shame to their people, but others believe it could be a constant reminder of something they should be ashamed of.

Seems a very touching, or horrifying monument had been set up in one of the public squares of the city, and lately, there are moves to tear it down. Those were probably connected with the ones who had set it up and a picture that was shown on TV last week was really horrifying. No wonder the present authorities there want it removed. But they must be among those who had perpetrated the incident that had led to its erection. Obviously, they do not want to have a reminder of that incident that all following generations may condemn them for.

***

Expectedly, human rights groups are protesting against its dismantling, and are angry at their mayor for favoring it.  With such reactions that, hopefully, will not lead to another tragedy. I guess they have leaders now who would rather look the other way when they pass by the square that has become a symbol of man’s inhumanity to man for some of them. Human rights groups have reportedly named it “The Pillar of Shame”!

If you were given a chance to go to the moon, would you dare? Seems a 90-year-old man named William Shatner has offered to go with explorers who are going there. Shatner is reported to be 90 years old so, perhaps, he is thinking, “What have I got to lose, at my age?” This could be his only chance for popularity, and maybe get his name in history books. I hope I can follow up his story in the following days. His experience may start a rush for adventurers to sign up for a real “Trip to the Moon”!*
