A barangay kagawad was arrested by the police Saturday for creating alarm and scandal and for illegal possession of a firearm in Brgy. Bacuyangan, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental.
Nabbed was Barangay 2 kagawad John Jose Celiz, 48.
The arrest of Celiz stemmed from the complaint of Vicente Pampliega, owner of the Bloomers Restobar, whose wife, Sharifa, was allegedly threatened with a gun by the barangay kagawad, who was creating alarm and scandal, the Hinoba-an police said.
The apprehension of Celiz yielded a .22 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver with nine live ammunition, the Hinoba-an Police Station reported.
On the same day, a senior citizen identified as Hernani Banate was also arrested by the police at Apollo Village in Brgy. Mabini, Cadiz City, for his involvement in a shooting incident.
The Cadiz City police said that the victim identified as George Calida, 46, and four of his relatives were sitting in front of his residence when Banate, who was armed with a homemade shotgun, suddenly arrived and shot him without any provocation.
Calida was immediately brought to the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic for treatment of his injuries, while the suspect was arrested by policemen who responded to the shooting incident and disarmed him.*
